Our Enviornment
Joan Macy School offers a calm, nurturing, and highly structured academic environment. Our course of study is in alignment with the California Standards and Frameworks. Practical instructional skills are integrated into the classroom experience to promote the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in society today. All classrooms have networked computer stations with filtered Internet access for educational study and research. Students follow school district graduation requirements, with special guidance for those behind schedule. In addition, our program offers a great variety of community assess, including field trips, dual-enrollment, and full mainstreaming back to public school as appropriate. Our extended school year allows students to maintain the structure of the school setting and earn additional graduation credits.
Our Staff
Staff includes veteran teachers with clear regular and special education teaching credentials, and many have graduate degrees in Special Education. Our faculty is highly experienced with special needs students and most have worked in our school for over 10 years. In addition, one of our greatest assets lies in the sophistication and experience level of a team of clinicians comprised of psychiatrists, licensed independent practitioners, behavior intervention specialists, and teachers that together make-up the Treatment Team.
